Acknowledging that this blog is an experiment in music punditry -which hasn’t happened yet; its really just music therapy for me now- I’ve put up my music yearender post on my main blog:

Music Profile Podcast of 2009

Two parts, 21-song long. I think I left out a good number of releases, I’m not at all comfortable with my Japanese techno-pop choice, and maybe my recent additions wasn’t really a personal contribution, but a standard critic pick. No matter. Again, this was a year when the guilty-pleasure took reign over the cool stuff.

#

NPR Music released the following podcasts. Read up, download, and listen.

All Songs Considered Listeners Pick The Best Music Of 2009

Discussion: The Year In Music, 2009. Biggest Surprises, Best New Artists, Best Songs And More

UPDATE:

As he did last year NPR’s Lars Gotrich made a list again this year, and unsuprisingly, American black metal outfit Krallice made it on top again: Viking’s Choice: Metal And Outer Sound In ‘09

#

I had a brief Twitter discussion with a 90s music warrior, with the mention of a ridiculous excuse for a rock band which was recently cited by Billboard as Band of the Decade. I made the assertion that Billboard’s basis was on sales, but that if Rolling Stone or Spin made the same choice, I wouldn’t be surprised. I also noted Raygun, the anti-design music magazine then. She cited Pitchfork for some reason, and I said something like: Pitchfork is too cool for me.

How can a music publication be too cool? I’ll think about it and answer this on a future post.
